Trinity College Upends Baseball, 5-4, in West Hartford
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., March 28, 2006 - The Springfield College baseball team jumped to a 4-0 lead, but could not hold on today as it fell to Trinity College, 5-4, in West Hartford.
With the loss which snapped a three-game winning streak, Springfield is now 7-5 overall. Trinity is 8-5.
The Pride had jumped to a 4-0 lead, scoring all four runs in the top of the third inning. But the Bantams came back with a run in the bottom of the fifth, one more in the sixth, and three in the seventh to take the lead.
Sophomore hurler Joe Carlos (Hampden, Mass.) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) for Springfield College. He walked two and struck out two. Freshman Jimmy Lisowski (Warwick, Mass.) pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving up three hits and three runs (two earned). He too walked two and struck out two, but picked up the first loss of his career. Lisowski is now 1-1. Senior Scott Samolewicz (Florence, Mass.) pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Six different SC players had one hit apiece. Senior catcher Adam Tarquini (Fishkill, N.Y.) had the only extra base hit (a double). He was 1-for-3. Senior shortstop Chris McCarthy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) had SC’s big hit in the third inning with a two-run single.
For Trinity, Eric McGrath pitched the first 5 1/3 innings. Gabe Rotman hurled the last 3 2/3 innings, getting credit for the win. He is now 2-0.
Up next, Springfield plays at Keene State Wednesday (Mar. 29) at 3:00 p.m. SC’s next home game is Thursday (Mar. 30) versus Brandeis at 3:00 p.m. SC will host NEWMAC-foe Wheaton in a doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 1) at 12:00 p.m.
