

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 17, 2006 – Springfield College scattered 11 hits over nine innings, but was only able to put one run on the board, as the Pride fell to Endicott College this afternoon, 11-1, in non-conference action at Berry-Allen Field.
The Gulls (16-14) controlled the game from the start, taking advantage of two SC errors to score five runs in the first inning. Endicott drove in three more runs in the top of the second to increase its lead to 8-0. Key RBI hits for the Gulls came from freshman left-fielder Joe Paciell, who went 3-for-3, and sophomore catcher Dan Gomez.
Senior shortstop Chris McCarthy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored the Pride’s lone run on an RBI double by senior third baseman Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in the bottom of the seventh. McCarthy scored his team-high 28th run of the season and went 3-for-5 on the day to improve his team-best batting average to .366 for the season.
Gulls’ junior hurler Mike Daggett picked up his first win of the season, improving his record to 1-2 by allowing just one run over seven innings. Senior Carl Longo (Manchester, N.H.) was credited with the loss for SC and is now 2-2.
The Pride falls to 12-14 overall on the season and will next play another non-conference tilt at Wesleyan University tomorrow afternoon, April 18th, in a 3:30 p.m. start.
