

NEW LONDON, Conn., January 10, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore guard Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting from the field as the Pride defeated Coast Guard, 54-46, to remain perfect in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Tuesday evening in New London, Conn.
SC held the Bears to just one field goal in the first 12 minutes of the second half as the Pride built a 15-point lead and held on for a 54-46 win over Coast Guard in the first-place NEWMAC battle. SC raises its record to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in conference play, as the Bears fall to 3-5 overall and 2-1.
The Pride used a 14-7 run to end the first half and turned a 15-13 deficit with 11:12 left into a 27-22 halftime lead.
Sophomore guard Tara McCarthy (Bristol, R.I.) led SC in scoring with 15 points, while senior forward Courtney Parvin (Brackney, Pa.) added 11 as the Pride captured its fourth-straight win. Freshman forward Lauren O’Connor (Valhalla, N.Y.) grabbed 10 caroms to go along with four points off the bench.
Natalie Moyer led Coast Guard with 21 points while Mary Arvidson had 15 points and tied a school-record with 22 rebounds.
SC will next travel to Babson College for yet another NEWMAC contest on Saturday afternoon, January 14, in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
Entering her 19th season as head coach in 2009-10, Naomi Graves has directed her squads to an impressive 266-117 record (.695 winning percentage) since joining the Division III ranks in 1995. Graves has led the Pride to eleven post-season bids in the past 14 years, including five berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the past nine years.
