Williams College Hands No. 12 Women's Basketball Its First Loss

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., November 22, 2005 - Springfield College senior center Erin Schwartz (Milford, Conn.) recorded a double-double, scoring a team-best 15 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, but it was Williams College which held on to defeat the Pride, 65-59, on Tuesday evening in Williamstown, Mass.

Despite having four players in double figures on the night, SC could never rebound from a poor first half, as the Pride falls to 2-1 on the season. Sophomore guard Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) scored 11 points on the night, dishing out five assists, as senior Courtney Parvin (Brackney, Pa.) and freshman Lauren O'Conner (Valhalla, N.Y.) each added 10 points.

After starting the opening minutes of the game with a 7-2 lead, the Pride was able to muster just 12 more points in the first half, falling behind 28-19 at the break. The second half was a different story, as the two teams combined for 77 points, with SC scoring 40 second half points. With 10:16 left in the contest, Parvin's three-pointer gave the Pride a temporary, 40-39 edge. At that point, however, Williams started to pull away, going on a 7-0 run to take a 46-40 lead with 7:25 left in the game.

The Ephs (2-1) held onto their lead for the remainder of the contest, as SC could only get to within three points (53-50) at the 2:34-marker. Williams was led by senior Colleen Hession, as she led all scorers with 24 points, becoming just the eighth woman in Williams College history to crack the 1,000-point plateau.

The Pride will next travel to Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) for a non-conference game on Tuesday night, November 29, in a 7:00 p.m. start. SC's 2005-2006 home opener will take place on Friday evening, December 9, in a 7:00 p.m. start against Wesleyan University.
