

ASHLAND, Va., November 18, 2005 - Springfield College seniors Courtney Parvin (Brackney, Pa.) and Erin Schwartz (Milford, Conn.) each scored 16 points to lead the No. 12 Pride past Hamilton College, 82-53, on Friday evening (Nov. 18) in the first day of action at the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Classic in Ashland, Virginia.
SC (1-0) jumped out on the Continentals (0-1) early, as the Pride scored the first eight points of the contest and never looked back, outscoring Hamilton by a 28-10 margin in the first ten minutes of play. SC held a 46-31 advantage at the break behind an impressive 55.6-percent shooting from the floor in the first half. In all, the Pride shot at a 53-percent clip in its season-opener.
Parvin and Schwartz led four players in double figures in the game, as Parvin added 10 rebounds for a double-double on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. Junior point guard LaToya Franklin (Latham, N.Y.) also registered a double-double in the game, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with four steals, three assists, and just one turnover. Sophomore guard Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) added 11 points off the bench for SC.
The Pride will next square off with the host school, No. 2 Randolph-Macon College, in the second day of action at the Tip-Off Classic in a 4:00 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon, November 19.
Entering her 19th season as head coach in 2009-10, Naomi Graves has directed her squads to an impressive 266-117 record (.695 winning percentage) since joining the Division III ranks in 1995. Graves has led the Pride to eleven post-season bids in the past 14 years, including five berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the past nine years.
