

Williamstown, Mass. - January 21, 2009 -- The Springfield College wrestling team, currently ranked 26th in the country, travel to take on Williams this evening and dropped a 26-20 decision. The Ephs were tested by a talented Springfield squad but were able to hold on for the win. Williams came out to a fast start winning their first two matches by decision. However, the Pride quickly bounced back earning hard fought win in 3rd match of the day as Ryan McGilvray won by a technical fall, 16-1. After the loss, the Ephs refocused, earning three straight wins, two by major decision and the third by forfeit.
Springfield would not go away as Brandon Sundwall pinned his opponent in 6:03 and was followed up by Anthony Scarpetti winning a 5-3 match at 184. However, Ryan Malo, wrestling in the 197 pound weight class sealed the victory with a pin for Williams. Chris Brown added a pin at the 285 clas in 6:50.
Springfield returns to the mats when it hosts Norwich in its final home dual meet of the season on January 28th at 7:00 pm.

Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 20th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2009-10. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 278-151-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .646 winning percentage.
