

Springfield, Mass. – December 17, 2008 – After a solid start to their 2008-2009 season, the Springfield College wrestling team was recently ranked third in New England by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Coaches Poll.Springfield, which most recently defeated WPI, 28-11, in a dual meet on December 10 , will resume action when it takes part in the Wilkes Open on December 28.
A major factor in the Pride's success to start the season has been seven key wrestlers, who earned recognition in this week's individual rankings.
Ryan McGilvray (Manalapan, N.J.), is ranked fourth in the 141 lb. class, while teammate and senior captain Oscar Orellana (Tom Rivers, N.J.) is ranked fifth in the 149 lb. class.
Senior Rob Mifsud (Somers, N.Y.) is ranked tied for second in the 157 lb. class, while junior Chris Perry (East Fishkill, N.Y.) remains third in the 165 lb. class. Sophomore Victor Stanziale (Bloomfield N.J.) sits ranked fourth in the 174-pound classification.
Rounding out the Pride's ranked wrestlers include Greg Dussol (Amston, Conn.), who is now ranked fourth at 184. Lastly, senior Chris Brown (East Hartford, Conn.), is now tied for second in the 285 lb. class.
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 20th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2009-10. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 278-151-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .646 winning percentage.
