

Springfield, Mass. - October 6, 2009 - The Springfield College women’s volleyball team will be hosting the annual Tom Hay Invitational this weekend in Blake Arena with a different twist as the Pride will have its eye on raising awareness towards breast cancer.The Pride will take on Westfield State at 5:00 pm on Friday before squaring off versus Plymouth State at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, the Pride will take on local-rival Western New England at 10:00 am and challenge Endicott in a 3:00 pm match.
Springfield College plans to raise breast cancer awareness in the following way:
* the Springfield College women’s volleyball team will be wearing pink T-shirts during warm-ups
* pink ribbons will be handed out to all fans
* the arena will be decorated with signs and pink balloons
* the tournament’s game program will be pink
* live stats available on-line for all four of the Pride’s games, will be featured mainly in pink
* fans are welcome to make donations for breast cancer research
Springfield College is requesting fans wear pink apparel to these contests.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
