

Springfield, Mass. - February 6, 2009 - The Springfield College men’s volleyball team hosts the defending Division I National Champion Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm. With both schools currently ranked as the top team in the country in their respective divisions, the Pride and Nittany Lions each were crowned national champions last season.
The athletic department will be giving away t-shirts to the first 50 students in attendance as all fans are encouraged to wear white to the game.
In what is being tabbed the "Blizzard in Blake" (see photo), 50 coupons will also be given away to Cold Stone and a drawing will be made for a free ice cream cake.
Saturday marks the second time in a week these teams have met, as last Saturday at Penn State, the Pride battled in a three-game loss, 30-28, 3022, 30-28. AJ Nally had a standout game with 17 kills, hitting .314, to go along with four blocks., while Mark Ribeiro chipped in with 10 kills as well for SC.
Penn State enters Saturday's match with a 7-0 record, including a 3-0 mark in EIVA play and have not played since last Saturday’s win over the Pride. Will Price has recorded a team-best 95 kills this year, averaging 3.96 per game while hitting .415. Dennis Del Valle has posted 72 kills so far this year to lead the team, while the duo of Max Lipsitz and Max Holt are combining for over 2.00 blocks per game.
With four national championships to his credit, Charlie Sullivan will enter his 12th season as head coach of the men's volleyball team in 2010. In 11 previous years at the helm, Sullivan owns an overall record of 153-124 for a .552 winning percentage. Read more.
