

Springfield, Mass. - October 5, 2009 - Junior All-American Heather Lively was recently honored for her outstanding play last week as she was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.The Royalston, Mass. product guided Springfield to a 5-0 week, including a 4-0 weekend in which it won the Oneonta Invitational. In addition, the reigning NEWMAC Player of the Year was also named the Invitational's MVP over the weekend
For the week, Lively recorded 58 kills, hitting .283, to go along with 25 digs and six aces. In the championship match, the junior was unstoppable, hitting .571 as she totaled 12 kills on just 21 swings, as the Pride swept host Oneonta. Earlier in the week, Lively posted a team-best 11 kills, hitting .320, in Springfield's three-game win over Clark. As a team, Springfield swept four out of its five matches and only lost one game over the five-match span.
Lively and the Pride return to action on Tuesday evening when they host Mount Holyoke in a conference contest.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
