

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- December 1, 2007 – Junior Rob Mifsud won at 157-pounds and senior Elliot Smith won at 184-pounds in helping Springfield College to a 4th-place team finish at the Petrofes Wrestling Invitational held yesterday and today at Messiah College in Grantham, Penn.
Springfield finished with 111 team points to allow it to place fourth. Heidelberg won the invitational with 162 points, followed by Cortland State (147), Brockport State (128.5), Springfield (111), Messiah (96), Muhlenberg (94), Johns Hopkins (57), Oneonta State (55), Mount Union (54), Ursinus (47.5), Washington & Lee (41), King’s (37), and Gettysburg (34).
Mifsud, a junior from Somers, N.Y., was a winner in the 157-pound weight classification. Smith, a senior from Richville, N.Y., was a winner in the 184-pound weight classification. For Smith, it was his second title in this very young season. He also was a winner at 184 pounds in Springfield’s own Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 17.

Hwt. – junior Chris Brown (East Hartford, Conn.) – 8th
Former Springfield College All-American Daryl Arroyo will be entering his 20th season as the head wrestling coach at his alma mater in 2009-10. Under his tutelage, the Springfield College wrestling program has posted a 278-151-6 overall dual-meet record, good for an outstanding .646 winning percentage.
