Scarpetti Places Third at the Brute Sunshine Wrestling Open in Florida

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- December 29, 2007 – Anthony Scarpetti of Springfield College finished third in the 174-pound weight classification and became the top Pride wrestler to place at the Brute Sunshine Wrestling Open during competition on December 28 and 29 in Lakeland, Florida.

No team scores were recorded, although a number of the nation’s top Division III teams participated, including Augsburg, the defending national champion.

Scarpetti, a freshman from Lititz, Penn., was one of five Springfield College wrestlers who placed in the top six of their respective weight classes.

Placing 5th in their weight classifications were seniors Jamie Sgaglione (No. Massapequa, N.Y.) at 141 pounds, Erik Delahanty (Clinton, Conn.) at 157, and Jake Tyler (Gouverneur, N.Y.) at 165. Also finishing 6th in the 184-pound weight class was senior Elliot Smith (Richville, N.Y.).

Up next for Springfield wrestlers is a dual meet versus Cortland on Tuesday, January 8 at 1 pm at SC’s Blake Arena.
