

Wellesley Box Score Northampton, Mass. - October 24, 2009 - The Springfield College women's volleyball split a pair of matches in the final day of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Saturday. Springfield fell to conference-rival Wellesley in four games on Saturday morning, before Chelsea Barnicle paced the Pride to a four-game win over Smith in the afternoon.
The split brings Springfield's record to 24-5 this season.
In the four-game loss to Wellesley, Springfield was led by Heather Lively's 14 kills. Sarah Lang-Rodean totaled eight kills, while Kim Giaquinto posted six kills and five blocks. The Blue won by the game scores of 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20.
Against the host Smith Pioneers, the Pride won by the game scores of 25-14, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15. Barnicle was tremendous for SC as she posted six aces and 10 digs in the victory. Lively chipped in with 14 kills to power the offensive attack, while Lang-Rodean added 12 kills.
For her efforts, Lively was selected to the all-tournament team.
Springfield returns home to the friendly confines of Blake Arena for a match against WPI on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm.
Joel Dearing will enter his 21st season as head women's volleyball coach at his alma mater in the fall of 2009. Dearing is regarded nationally as one of the sport’s best coaches and he has the resume to prove it. Dearing ranks in the top-10 in Division III history with a 670-298 (.692) overall mark in 28 seasons as a women’s volleyball coach.
