Wrestling Takes 5th at the Doug Parker Invitational; Smith Wins the 184-Pound Weight Class

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 17, 2007) – Senior Elliot Smith (Richville, N.Y.) won the 184-pound weight classification in helping Springfield College to a 5th-place team finish at the 18th Annual Doug Parker Wrestling Invitational held today at Springfield’s Blake Arena.

Rhode Island College, sparked by Mike Bonora’s championship in the 141-pound weight class, won the team title with 142.50 points. A total of 18 schools competed. Finishing behind RIC were, in order: Kings Point (113 points), Centenary (111.50), Williams (109), Springfield (101), Roger Williams (87.50), Bridgewater State (87), Oswego (81.50), Wesleyan (77.50), Stevens (76.50), AIC (57), MIT (52), WNEC (40.50), Norwich (36.50), Coast Guard (33.50), Washington & Jefferson (33), Gettysburg (21), and Trinity (16.50).

The Invitational’s Most Outstanding Wrestler was 133-pound champion Mike Gummerson of Centenary. The tourney’s Most Falls/Least Time winner was Jake Taylor of Oswego, the runner-up in the heavyweight classification.
