Wrestling Finishes Fourth at NEWA Duals

Oscar Orellana Bristol, R.I. -- January 18, 2009 -- The Springfield College wrestling team placed fourth out of 15 teams at the NEWA Duals held on Sunday afternoon at Roger Williams University. As a team, Springfield won its first two matches, thus assuring it would finish no lower than fourth. But the Pride fell to defeat in its final two matches of the day.

Johnson & Wales wound up winning the tournament by defeating Rhode Island College, 18-17, in the day's championship match. Williams took third by defeating Springfield, 36-7.

Earlier in the day, in order, Springfield defeated Coast Guard, 39-7, and Wesleyan 21-13. Then in the third round, eventual winner Johnson & Wales defeated Springfield 27-10.

Among individuals, Springfield had two going 3-1 on the day. They included senior 149-pounder Oscar Orellana (Toms River, N.J.) and senior 157-pounder Rob Mifsud (Somers, N.Y.). Senior hwt. Chris Brown (East Hartford, Conn.) went 2-0, and senior 184-pounder Greg Dussol (Amston, Conn.) went 2-1.
