Academics at Springfield College

The academic experience at Springfield College encompasses coursework, research, laboratory experience, and targeted fieldwork enhanced by co-curricular and voluntary service activities on campus and in the community.

Founded in 1885 and serving as the International YMCA Training School for much of its early history, Springfield College now offers undergraduate degrees in more than 40 majors, master’s degrees in 15 fields, and doctoral degrees in physical therapy and physical education. The College is ranked in the top tier for “Best Universities – Master’s North Region” by the U.S. News & World Report and offers quality programs in a full range of disciplines in the arts and sciences, health sciences and rehabilitation studies, education, management, human services, social work, and physical education, sport, and movement studies.

The student-to-faculty ratio is 13 to 1, and over 80 percent of the members of the faculty have earned the highest degrees attainable in their field of study.

Serving a unique mission to “educate students in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to humanity,” the College is known nationally and internationally for its Humanics Philosophy. This philosophy creates an environment where learning is valued and respected, both inside and outside the classroom. Academic and co-curricular programs at the College are integrated and our majors include traditional coursework, enhanced by applied internships, fieldwork experiences, or other experiential learning activities. The focus on leadership development and community service at the College adds to this learning experience by engaging students in volunteer service activities and in service-learning initiatives on campus and in the local community. Graduates of the College are prepared for leadership roles in both their professions and in their communities.
