COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED The office of the president has announced the speakers for the 2005 commencement exercises. They are Charley Casserly '71, G'72, senior vice president and general manager for the Houston Texans football team, and the Honorable Brian Lees (R-East Longmeadow), Massachusetts Senate Minority Leader. Casserly will speak at Undergraduate Commencement Sunday, May 15, at 9:30 a.m. on Blake Track. Lees will deliver the address at the Graduate Student Commencement Saturday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. on the Administration Green.
PAMELA K. LEVANGIE PRESENTS GREENE MEMORIAL LECTURE Pamela K. Levangie, a professor of physical therapy at Sacred Heart University, presented "Professional Development: Connecting the Dots of Opportunity and Happenstance" at the Greene Memorial Lecture April 1 in the Health Sciences Center. The department of physical therapy annually presents the endowed lecture by a noted researcher whose work has influenced the field of physical therapy. It is named in memory of Jean Greene, by her husband, Edwin Greene, who was a graduate of the Springfield College Class of 1935.
DEBORAH FEIN PRESENTS BRITTON C. AND LUCILE MCCABE LECTURE Deborah Fein, Ph.D., presented "Can Autistic Children Recover?" at the ninth annual Britton C. and Lucile McCabe Lecture April 14 in Appleton Auditorium of the Fuller Arts Center. Fein is a professor of psychology at the University of Connecticut. The lecture is sponsored by the department of biology and chemistry.
PROF. CHARLIE REDMOND TO GIVE HUMANICS LECTURE, INTRODUCE 2005-2006 DISTINGUISHED SPRINGFIELD PROFESSOR OF HUMANICS Current Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics Charlie Redmond, associate professor of physical education and chair of the exercise science and sport studies department, will present the 2005 Distinguished Professor of Humanics Lecture Thursday, April 21, at 4 p.m. in Appleton Auditorium of the Fuller Arts Center. Following his presentation, Redmond will introduce the 2005-2006 Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics. A reception will follow in the Linkletter Foyer of the center. SC FORMS NEW SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES AND REHABILITATION STUDIES, APPOINTS DEAN WILLIAM SUSMAN Springfield College will establish a new School of Health Sciences and Rehabilitation Studies and has appointed William Susman P.T., Ph.D., as dean. Susman, who now is associate dean for academic programs at the Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University, will begin his new post in June, and the school will be operational by September. Read more.
SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE EMS STUDENTS PRACTICE SKILLS AT MOCK CAR CRASH In a mock two-car crash involving passengers with simulated injuries ranging from minor scratches to a fatality, students of the Springfield College Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Club put their emergency training to work today at noon on Alden Street in front of the College's Babson Library. OLYMPIC MEDALIST TO SPEAK AS COLLEGE CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF GRADUATE EDUCATION Olympic medalist Willye White will speak at the Appleton Auditorium of Fuller Arts Center April 20, at 4 p.m. as Springfield College kicks off its celebration of 100 Years of Graduate Education. White's presentation will be introduced by Pres. Richard Flynn.
79th STEPPING UP DAY CEREMONY Held annually since 1926, Stepping Up Day reflects the tradition of abolishing any rivalries between classes that may have existed during the academic year. It is also the symbolic move of classes to the next academic plateau and the induction of the senior class into the Alumni Association. This year's ceremony will take place Tuesday, April 26, at 12 noon on MacLean Terrace of Alumni Hall.
