8th Annual Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Conference
Organized by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, Springfield College Business Management majors had the opportunity to gain experience from those who have succeeded as entrepreneurs at the annual Grinspoon, Garvey & Young Entrepreneurship Conference at the MassMutual Center on Friday, November 2nd. The conference features aspiring entrepreneurs who have turned their dreams into a business.
The foundation appointed Springfield College Professor Dr. Robert Fiore, D.B.A., as faculty representative in 2002. Fiore mentors Springfield College students and encourages them to develop an “entrepreneurial spirit” and to act upon desires to own their own businesses. Dr. Fiore encourages Springfield College Business Management majors to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
Students attending the conference began their day with a team competition to creatively come up with an idea for a new venture using a 'secret ingredient'. The Entrepreneurship Conference is held annually to inspire, motivate and support college students to turn their ideas into small businesses.
Afternoon breakout sessions included:
- Accelerated New Product Development for Small Business
- Grinspoon Alumni Share Their Stories
- The Top 10 Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make
- How to Secure the Right Kind of Funding to Support your Venture
- The Shark Tank
The Shark Tank is a local take on the national television show of the same name. In each of these sessions, students learned directly from successful entrepreneurs, business leaders and entrepreneurship faculty. It is truly a community endeavor.
The keynote speaker this year was Ben Einstein. Ben is an experienced product designer and entrepreneur.
